What is a 3D Face Scan?
A radiation-free optical scan that captures the true-to-life shape, contour and colour of your face in three dimensions. At DMD Imaging it is merged with your CBCT data, so your dentist can plan around your whole facial structure rather than your teeth alone.
How long does the scan take?
The face scan itself takes only a few minutes. Where a CBCT is taken in the same visit, both scans are completed in one appointment.
Is the 3D Face Scan safe?
Yes. It is non-invasive and uses no ionising radiation — it works optically, like a very precise camera.
Who can benefit from a 3D Face Scan?
Patients planning orthodontic treatment, dental implants, cosmetic smile design or maxillofacial surgery, and those being assessed for TMJ disorders.
Does the 3D Face Scan use radiation?
The 3D Face Scan itself is completely radiation-free. If your treatment plan also requires a CBCT, that is a separate low-dose X-ray examination which your dentist will justify individually.
What is included in the report?
Facial proportions and symmetry, soft-tissue analysis, 3D visual simulations, merged face scan and CBCT data, and a radiological report with treatment planning — prepared by an MDS-qualified dental radiologist.
